Headland is an online journal publishing quality short literary fiction and creative non-fiction. The journal gives voice to aspiring writers alongside established authors, from Aotearoa New Zealand and abroad. As readers and writers, we hope that Headland takes you places you’ll want to revisit, and offers new perspective and territory to explore.
Submissions are now open for the Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne Essay Prize until 12 September.
We are currently closed for regular submissions, but our next submission period will be 8 November 2021 - 31 January 2022. Writers are strongly encouraged to read the submission guidelines carefully before submitting work.
Headland is staffed by volunteers and produced in partnership with Massey University's Creative Writing programme.
